ABOUT THE ARTIST
Susana Martins is a Luso-Canadian artist exploring beauty, place, memory and longing through painting, watercolour and photography.
Inspired by the landscapes, light and quiet moments she encounters, Susana creates mixed media paintings and watercolours that explore beauty, memory and our connection to place. Her work often begins with her own photographs, which she transforms through paint, allowing memory and imagination to become part of the image.
Her Portuguese heritage and ongoing connection to Portugal have become an increasingly important part of her practice. Her Love Letter to Vagueira series began along the coast of Portugal and continues to grow through her experience of returning to and remembering the places she loves.
At the heart, Susana’s work is a desire to slow down and notice - to find beauty in the natural world and in the ordinary moments that nourish us, and invite us that same sense of wonder and peace into the lives of others.
Susana’s work is held in private collections across Canada, the United States and Europe, where she has also exhibited.
Susy’s calm and ethereal paintings can be found in homes across Canada, USA and Europe and she regularly exhibits her artwork in shows within Ontario.
